Explosive warheads: A Road Into Darkness, by Raven Blackmane, part 3:

But the assassin was not alone. A second man, who had been crouching
back in the hallway, shouted out in a coarse-sounding language Raven
did not understand. Instantly there came a whistling sound in the room
behind her -- and she turned to see two arrows embedded in the floor.
Each had a small sphere behind the head, which was glowing with an
eerie green light... "Damn!" Raven shouted, darting out into the
hallway. The second assassin turned and ran, not even looking back. At
the moment, though, Raven had more important concerns. "Merai, get
out!" she cried at the top of her lungs, hoping to rouse as many of
the acolytes as she could at the same time. "Awake, awake! Run, now!"
Taking her own advice, Raven raced down the hallway, Merai close
behind. A handful of the more alert acolytes followed two seconds
later--
And then the building was rocked by a deafening explosion.

I'm having a little trouble locating the semi-auto weapon reference
right now though; but it was basically a crossbow that took a magazine
of bolts, and had a gear mechanism in it such that when you pulled
back on the charging handle, it cocked the bow and loaded a bolt all
in one action. It was in a more recent story... Umm... could the
author responsible for this nifty little gizmo please speak up? I
*think*, IIRC, it was described as it was being shown to Misha???

It isn't... and I'm trying to get across to a knowledgeable reader the
similarities to a very powerful nuclear bomb going off, without
actually invoking a reference to that technology. OTOH, I don't want
it to be too inaccessible for someone not well versed in particle
physics, either...

P.s. -- I find it quite amusing that my spell checker (er, the one
with the english dictionary, not the one with the grimoire) thinks
"Moranisi" should be "Morons"... :-)
