you are correct, there is a vast difference between the Nuah'Kae and the Gryfin of Quickpaws clan. these differences are religious, geological, Elemental, and also to an extent physical.

typically assistance as you mention comes from others within the clan. however Kiska and Quickpaw are not so fortunate, as the rest of her clan has either been destroyed or fled to another realm. therefor they must seek assistance elsewhere. (but i wont spoil that story right now.)

as for Charles being surprised at meeting the Nuah'Kae, as mentioned earlier, it was belived that Quickpaw was the LAST of her kind, so it would be something of a surprise to have other Gryfin about. even if they are not the same "breed" as it were. i have not yet decided if i will have Quickpaw and Kiska discover the Nuah'Kae on there own. that one is still in the air.

as for the use of Runes to channel magic, it would help to have hands to do so. but being locked in a full Gryfin body has a few disadvantages. with time and practice, there powers will become truly awesom, and some iteresting ways to have fire and water (generally considered opposites, and not compatible) to work together will be found (can anyone say hydrogen bomb)..

Kiskas first experience with his Element was as exhausting as it was simply because he did not have the control or experience to most efficiently channel that energy. whereas Quickpaw had a (little) more experience with hers. in time, feats like that night will become simple to him, though he would not have done it the same way.

all this leads to there departure from Metamor in the months prior to WA. so as not to have some (rather difficult to hide) characters conspicuously absent therefrom. incidentally i am toying with the idea of having Cathal join them as a side mission. (but again i don't want to spoil the story, if it goes in this direction.)

thank you for the feedback, it is much appreciated. i hope i was able to adequately answer your questions.

Truly there must be some distinction between these gryphons and the Nuah'Kae that is in Liturgies.

Also... both gryphons could use a bit of training assistance from a sorcerer (as opposed to a mage) because they channel energies in much the same way, but ammend those energies with ritual & rune to create spells of complex and amazing power with only a slight expendature of their own energies.
Imagine sorcerously trained gryphons adding ritual & rune to their already innate elemental chanelling... A truly terrifying creature to behold from the recieving end of their powers.
