Apart from the age of Vikedal, it seems like a 
nice opening.  Three hundred thousand years is 
simply too old.  It's already been established 
that dragons, while long of life, and not THAT 
long.  It is supposed that Qan-af-årael is the 
oldest living being in the world at only 3000 
(though he doesn't have to be).  But 300,000 
stretches all credulity.  Cut off a factor of a 
hundred and it becomes reasonable.

I am very uncertain about having as a main 
character somebody who is practically antideluvian.
