One question that keeps coming up to me is names; What can i name my
character/characters/town/organization? A good question as the name of a
character forms a big part of the picture the read forms of the character.

I have over the years developed a system. One really big help is the various
online baby name websites. I also purchased several large Name files from
Drive Thru RPG website that I use all the time. Here is a few of the name
files they have.
http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=445 .

As to what name list to use that varies depending on the character. We
have based many of the Metamor Keep societies and countries on real world
ones. Some just share names others various parts of the culture. Most if not
all the names in Lord of the Rings are real names - mostly old English.

Some examples are:

Centli - loosely based on the Celtic

Seuilman - Based on ancient roman - where I've discovered all male names
seem to end in ius.

Marigund- England but with a strong Celtic elements.

Yamato - Japanese

The rest of the East - China

Lom Shi'Un - Vietnamese but for names only - culture is vastly different.

The Lutins - They vary widely with each tribe being different - just SOME
are Native American, African, European, Asian, The AD&D games but a lot is
just plain made up by various authors.

Kkarrt - Ancient Egypt

Other sources for names are Lord of the Rings, The AD&D games, And various
other books. I got the name Madog - from the old Brother Cadfael series of
books. How can you top the name "Madog of the Dead boat?"

Don't take any of this as an ironclad rule - go with what works best for
you. Bust showing consistency does I think add believability to a writers
stories.

Just a few thoughts on the matter. anyone else have some comments?
