Ok. Perhaps that city is the largest or has the best access to the FZ or that is the city is the easiest to get to. Like being on the coast or at the end of a Railroad line. I'll be on Discord later if you want to chat then.

It's mostly a matter of previous lore meeting reality. My world of Rani has been a long term project, but I've only recently tried to codify things more in hopes of making it a shared world. The place I'm starting is called Forbidden Gate (once Seagate City), a city on the edge of a wild-magic zone called the Forbidden Zone (formerly known as Candorin). Once upon a time, FG was the only way to access the FZ. In more recent maps, the island I've placed it on is (at maximum) 430 miles (692 km) N-S and 394 miles (634 km) E-W. This is a substantial area, so having just one city seems unlikely. Even trying to make FG roughly the size of London (entire) it's only a 25 by 25 mile area.
So, logically, there should be other towns and cities and probably even other major ones. I just never needed to develop any before, so I still need a good reason for FG to be the City of Adventure people will go to while figuring out the others.

Ironically I'm trying to do this for fun, but stressing myself out with the details.

I think I need to consult a professional map maker. I'm having a lot of difficulties figuring things out on a map I'm making. On the other side of this, I've practically no budget, so I don't know if I ought to even be asking.
