It also helps when the battle is on your home turf. :)

'Living memory' isn't just an empty phrase. As European's love to prove with 
the advent of each new generation, history can be revised with the stroke of 
a pen to confirm to whatever delusional socialistic philosophy is presently 
in vogue.

For them, the need for soldiers belays the 'success' they've enjoyed for 
generations opposing the militaristic aims of the implacable adversaries 
with nothing reason and a strongly worded note.

North Americans, on the other hand, are hardly any better. Except for the 
911 tragedy which brought us together for a few microseconds, we've managed 
to keep our enemies at arms length almost from the inception of this 
country.

To our shame, too many of us believe soldiers belong 'over there'. Out of 
sight. Out of mind.

While their individual sacrifices might be recognized on an individual 
level, the American public can't (or won't) acknowledge that they owe their 
continued safety and prosperity to living, breathing soldiers.

High tech machines... yes at any price. A living wage... no chance.

Sadly, we may someday soon reap the fruits of this folly.
