[Mkguild] Regular visits to MK

I do believe people ARE aware, and have been for some years, that the range of the curse is expanding.  As Metamor's influence grows - moreso than its population - the range of the magic/curse also grows.   It is not fast, granted, nor is it clear, but markers have been set up on all of the major trade routes to warn those approaching that they are near, or already within, the reach of the curse.
As well, the growing influence of the curse does not simply 'shut off' the moment someone goes beyond the range of the curse.  It bleeds off slowly, which is why most merchants do not return for at least a month or two, if not an entire year, just to be safe.  I believe I had just such a conversation some years ago on this topic.  For EACH DAY spent within the known limits of the curse it takes (at least) a day for the magic to fade, but a good rule of thumb is two days for the sake of safety.  So if someone stays a full ten days, they will not be entirely safe to return for at least ten but better yet twenty.  And just one step back begins the same clock all over again.Staying ten, leaving six, and returning starts the visitor back on the level of 'one four'.  Understandably this can get incredibly complex, particularly for the peasantry not versed in math.

But even that is no guaranteed dodge.  As expressed countless times before; the curse is fickle and unpredictable.  One person might be taken after only a day or pass the two week mark untouched only to wake up on day fifteen (or twenty, or whatever) already well into their change.  For some the change could be amazingly subtle and no matter the time they've been away it still affects them - over a period of months.Children born in Metamor to the non-cursed are unlikely to be whisked away within the ten day period - the curse would have them, no matter where they go afterward, and would claim them as they approached puberty.  Except, perhaps, in the magic-dead Holy Land.  I would go so far as to say that the curse affects the born, not the unborn.  So a child conceived in Metamor to the non-cursed would be safe while in the womb.  I have no hypothesis as to what might happen should the mother go through the transformation of the curse while pregnant - but I would hazard that the TG and AR curses would have minimal manifestation until after the birth, likewise with many Animorph manifestations where the new form would be too small to bear a human child to term.

The limits of the curse are roughly the limits of the valley itself. And the limits themselves are a bit hazy but aren't so well marked yet.  Worse - the limits of the curse are slowly expanding. A fact no one is aware of yet.  ChrisThe Lurking Fox  From: mkguild-bounces at lists.integral.org [mailto:mkguild-bounces at lists.integral.org] On Behalf Of Bill Kieffer aka Greyflank

I wonder what the demarcation lines are like... I mean I assume someone's marked them out to be quite visible, especially if the limits of the curse are sharp and abrupt.  And, maybe they are not ... has anyone explored that?

I could see junior mages and apprentices exploring that like highway survey teams.  Also, I would postulate that maybe the spread of the curse might wiggle a little based on the keep's variable geometry.  Another reason for a survey crew.

I ask because I have a story in the back of my mind for Killgore (a character most of you haven't seen yet).

Just typing outloud,

Subject: Re: [Mkguild] Regular visits to MKThe time in valley to be cursed is 14 days in a row. When a person leaves the valley (even for just a day) the clock (so to speak) resets to zero. It must be 14 days consecutively.     I hope this helps.    Chris   The Lurking Fox From: mkguild-bounces at lists.integral.org [mailto:mkguild-bounces at lists.integral.org] On Behalf Of Kolrim

Subject: [Mkguild] Regular visits to MK I know this question has been answered (probably a number of times) but I could not find it anywhere in my emails or in the wiki. If a visitor (say merchant) wants to visit the keep on a regular basis, how long do they need to stay out of the range of the curse before they could return without worrying about being cursed? I did read somewhere that if someone were to visit often enough and regularly enough they could get cursed even they were not within range of the curse for a full week at one time. Thanks bunches! Kolrim
