[Mkguild] Mother of Ravens Vignette

I'm currently working on two stories set in the world of MK.  Unfortunately,
neither story can be finished, let alone posted, until certain events have
come to pass.  What I can do, however, is post a little vignette from one of
them, Mother of Ravens(title tentative).

Some two dozen reptile and bird Keepers were gathered together in the
newly-built longhouse in Glen Avery to celebrate the opening of their new
meeting hall and brood sanctuary.

Margaret flapped her wings for a few beats and landed on the Chair's Perch.
Her talons settled into the grooves carved into the warmed block of granite.
The raven preened herself as she gathered her thoughts. /I've finally done it.
 It took years of study and a potentially disastrous business relationship,/
she thought as her eyes caught the gaze of another female raven who kept to
herself, /but it was all worth it.  No more empty eggs for me./  She cawed
loudly for attention.  When the hubbub of conversation had died down, she
spoke. "This meeting of the Fellowship of the Egg will come to order.  We are
gathered here today to celebrate the inauguration of our new home in Glen
Avery, away from watchful walls.  There is an even greater reason for
celebration, however.  Peter, could you step forward please?"

Peter waddled forward to stand in front of the slab of rock that his wife was
perched on and turned to face the assembly.  Clutched between the clawed
fingers of the raven's wing hands was a large brown-spotted pale green egg.

"My husband and I have wonderful news to tell all of you.  The egg that Peter
is holding," and with those words spoken, Peter raised his wings to hold up
the egg that he had fathered for all to see, "has our first child growing
inside of it."

The hall was filled with a cacophony of screeches and hisses as a great cheer
went up at Margaret's joyous news of parenthood.
